Background of the Workshop
Kyushu, the "Silicon Island", located in the southern part of Japan produces about 25% of the integrated circuits (ICs) in Japan. It is home to 17 wafer process factories including SONY, NEC, Toshiba, RENESAS, etc. and 4 silicon wafer factories which produce 15% of the world's Si wafers. In total, more than 650 companies support this Kyushu Industry.
In Kyushu, most companies are small & medium sized producers of equipment, modules and parts for semiconductor fabrication using their own technologies. Many have already started their international business with Asian companies where most of the worlds' ICs are produced. The success of previous MAP programs has laid the foundation for future semiconductor business through MAP&RTS2007.
